Punjab: Four Killed In Firing At Bathinda Military Station, Search Operation On

Four people killed in a firing incident inside Bathinda Military Station in the early hours of Wednesday. According to Punjab’s SSP, the incident was not a terror attack.

As per the officials, all four deceased have been identified from the 80 Medium Regiment. The incident happened inside the officers’ mess of the Bathinda Military station.

In an official statement, the Army said, “Firing incident reported in the early hours of the morning around 0435h inside Bathinda Military Station. Station Quick Reaction Teams were activated. The area was cordoned off and sealed. Search operations are in progress. Four Fatal casualties were reported. Further details being ascertained.”

‘Not a terror attack’

SSP GS Khurana also said, “The firing incident was not a terror attack.”

Moreover, the Punjab Police and intelligence sources also noted, “It doesn’t seem like a terror attack. It seems to be a case of fratricide.”

Families are also living in the area, sources said. An INSAS assault rifle went missing from the unit’s guard room a couple of days ago. Also, the sources said that even police have not been allowed inside Bathinda Cantonment. All the entry gates of the Army Cantt in Bathinda have been closed, the source added.

Search operations are in progress. Further details are being gathered.
