The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has announced a massive protest in Islamabad on October 15, the same day the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit kicks off. PTI’s political committee made the decision during an emergency meeting late Friday.
Shayan Bashir, PTI’s Central Punjab Information Secretary, urged supporters to gather at D-Chowk. He claimed that the government has cut off all contact with Imran Khan and put his life in danger. He called on Pakistanis to protest in support of Khan.
The government has deployed army units to secure Islamabad from October 4 to 17. Information Minister Attaullah Tarar said the protests would not disrupt the SCO meeting. He warned protesters to stay home, stating that security measures are complete.
Party workers are questioning the absence of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur after he led last week’s protest.
