Dismissing the BJP’s lofty ‘400 paar’ (beyond 400) slogan for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra made a bold assertion on Wednesday, suggesting that the ruling alliance would struggle to secure even 180 seats. Expressing scepticism towards the basis of the BJP’s ambitious claim, Priyanka Gandhi questioned whether they possessed insider knowledge or had employed unconventional methods to anticipate the election outcome.
“What grounds do they have to forecast 400 seats? Are they relying on astrological predictions? It seems either they have insider information or have resorted to unconventional tactics to secure such a sweeping victory,” remarked Priyanka Gandhi.
Asserting her confidence, she added, “If fair elections, devoid of any EVM tampering, were to be held today, I can confidently state that they won’t surpass 180 seats.”
Priyanka Gandhi voiced her views during her visit to Saharanpur in support of Congress candidate Imran Masood, who faces tough competition from sitting BJP MP Raghav Lakhanpal and Majid Ali of the BSP.
When pressed to predict the opposition INDIA bloc’s potential seat count, Priyanka Gandhi refrained from assuming the role of an ‘astrologer’ but expressed assurance that they would secure a considerable number of seats.
Highlighting the public’s desire for change, the Congress leader criticized the lack of development in the past decade, attributing it to Prime Minister Modi’s detachment from the populace.
“People are yearning for change. They reject this brand of politics. Over the past decade, there’s been a glaring absence of progress in the lives of ordinary citizens. Jobs remain scarce, and inflation persists. Despite the festive occasion of Ram Navami today, many struggle to make ends meet. Prime Minister Modi’s silence on issues like unemployment and inflation is deafening. It appears he’s out of touch with reality, shielded by an inner circle that fails to relay the true sentiments of the people,” remarked Priyanka Gandhi.
Saharanpur is slated to cast its vote in the initial phase of the Lok Sabha elections on April 19, with the vote count scheduled for June 4.
