Prime Minister Narendra Modi Congratulates Cyril Ramaphosa On Re-election As South African President

Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended warm congratulations to Cyril Ramaphosa on his re-election as the President of South Africa. Ramaphosa, who leads the African National Congress (ANC), secured his presidency during the First Sitting of the National Assembly of the 7th Parliament in Cape Town on 15 June.

Scheduled for 19 June at the Union Buildings in Tshwane, the Presidential Inauguration will see Ramaphosa sworn in by the country’s Chief Justice.

This significant event is themed ’30 years of Democracy; Partnership and Growth’.

In his message to President Ramaphosa, PM Modi expressed optimism about strengthening the strategic partnership between India and South Africa.

Warm congratulations, Excellency @CyrilRamaphosa on your re-election as the President of the Republic of South Africa. I look forward to working with you to further strengthen the India-South Africa strategic partnership,” PM Modi conveyed on X.

The Presidential Inauguration follows the formation of the seventh administration and marks the commencement of the President’s new term.

Both India and South Africa have maintained robust ties over the years, exemplified by their membership in forums such as G20 and BRICS.

During India’s G20 Presidency last year, significant participation was noted from African nations, underscoring the continent’s growing importance in global economic dialogues.

PM Modi has emphasized the potential for enhanced collaboration between India and South Africa, particularly in sectors like gems and jewelry.

This could include exploring direct procurement avenues for diamonds, thereby deepening economic engagements between the two nations.

The re-election of President Ramaphosa sets the stage for continued bilateral cooperation across various domains, further cementing the enduring friendship between India and South Africa.
