Prime Minister Modi Launches ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ Campaign On World Environment Day

On World Environment Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign, urging citizens to plant trees as a tribute to their mothers.

The initiative aims to foster environmental consciousness while honoring maternal figures worldwide.

The campaign commenced with PM Modi’s symbolic planting of a Peepal sapling at the Buddha Jayanti Park in the national capital.

Expressing his elation at the campaign’s inauguration, the Prime Minister encouraged individuals to participate by planting a tree in the coming days as a gesture of gratitude towards their mothers.

Taking to X, PM Modi underscored the significance of the initiative, stating, “Today, on World Environment Day, delight to start a campaign, #एक_पेड़_माँ_के_नाम. I call upon everyone, in India and around the world, to plant a tree in the coming days as a tribute to your mother. Do share a picture of you doing so using #Plant4Mother or #एक_पेड़_माँ_के_नाम.”

The event witnessed the presence of Union Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav and Delhi Lt. Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena, signifying governmental support for the cause.

This year’s World Environment Day revolves around the theme of ‘Land Restoration, Desertification, and Drought Resilience,’ highlighting the urgent need for environmental conservation and sustainable land management practices.

World Environment Day, observed annually on 5 June, traces its origins back to the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP)’s inception in 1972 during the Stockholm Conference.

Since 1974, the day has been celebrated globally as a call to action for environmental preservation and awareness.
