President Murmu, PM Modi, Leaders Offer Floral Tribute To Jyotirao Phule At Parliament Complex

On Saturday, President Droupadi Murmu, Vice President CP Radhakrishnan and Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid floral tributes to Mahatma Jyotirao Phule at the Parliament Complex, marking his birth anniversary.

Several senior leaders and parliamentarians joined the commemorations, including Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, Leader of the Rajya Sabha JP Nadda and Union Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal.

The leaders gathered to remember Phule’s contribution to social reform, particularly his efforts to expand access to education and promote equality in society.

A 19th-century reformer, Phule is widely recognised for his work in advancing the rights of women and marginalised communities, as well as for founding the Satyashodhak Samaj.

Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Modi also paid tribute through social media, describing Phule as a pioneering figure who worked for justice, equality and education. He noted that the reformer’s ideas continue to influence efforts aimed at social progress.

The Prime Minister highlighted that this year marks the beginning of Phule’s 200th birth anniversary commemorations.

In a blog shared on the occasion, he reflected on Phule’s lasting impact, stating that his commitment to learning and social upliftment remains relevant in contemporary times.

The Prime Minister further observed that Phule’s legacy extends beyond the institutions he established, pointing to the confidence and hope his work inspired among people.

The commemorative events at Parliament form part of wider nationwide observances marking the bicentenary year.
