On Saturday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to hold multiple public meetings across West Bengal, stepping up the Bharatiya Janata Party’s campaign ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections later this month.
As per the itinerary, the Prime Minister will begin his outreach with a rally in Katwa around midday. He will then move to Jangipur for a second address in the early afternoon, before concluding the day’s engagements with a public meeting in Balurghat in the Dakshin Dinajpur district.
Following Saturday’s schedule, PM Modi will likely travel to Siliguri, where he will participate in a roadshow on Sunday as part of continued campaigning in the region.
The rallies are part of a larger plan under which the Prime Minister is likely to address several meetings across the state during the election period, reflecting an intensified push by the BJP to consolidate support.
Earlier in the week, PM Modi had addressed gatherings in Haldia, Asansol and Siuri, where he criticised the ruling All India Trinamool Congress government on multiple issues.
During those speeches, the Prime Minister said that if the BJP comes to power in the state, it would initiate a probe into alleged infiltration networks. He also raised concerns about law and order, claiming that illegal explosive-making activities had become widespread.
The Prime Minister further spoke about issues in the education sector, alleging that several government-run schools had been shut down, which he claimed was affecting opportunities for young people.
PM Narendra Modi also cited an incident involving President Droupadi Murmu, alleging she faced disrespect during a recent visit to the state.
With polling for the 294-member Assembly scheduled in two phases on April 23 and April 29, and counting set for May 4, the BJP’s campaign is focusing on increasing its presence after mixed results in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
The Prime Minister’s back-to-back appearances aim to energise party workers and strengthen the party’s position in the contest.
