CP Radhakrishnan, elected as the 15th Vice President of India, received warm congratulations from President Droupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and several Union ministers on Tuesday.
He secured 452 first-preference votes, defeating opposition candidate Justice (Retd) B Sudarshan Reddy, who polled 300 votes.
President Droupadi Murmu hailed Radhakrishnan’s ‘decades of rich experience in public life’ and wished him a successful tenure. She said his leadership would contribute to the nation’s progress.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi described him as a leader committed to serving the poor and marginalised. He added that Radhakrishnan would ‘strengthen constitutional values and enhance parliamentary discourse’ in his new role.
Home Minister Amit Shah underlined his grassroots journey and administrative knowledge, noting these would strengthen parliamentary democracy.
Union Minister Nitin Gadkari praised his commitment to democratic values and vision for the nation, saying it would enrich his new office.
Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu said his victory reaffirmed the vibrancy of India’s democracy. He conveyed best wishes for his tenure.
With this election, CP Radhakrishnan will also assume charge as Chairman of the Rajya Sabha, guiding debates and upholding the sanctity of the Upper House.
