President Murmu To Pay Tribute To Manipuri Women Warriors On Nupi Lal Day

President Droupadi Murmu is visiting Manipur today as part of a two-day tour, paying homage to the state’s historic women warriors during the 86th Nupi Lal Day celebrations.

The President visited the Nupi Lal Memorial Complex in Imphal to honour the women who spearheaded the landmark resistance movements against British colonial rule in 1904 and 1939.

These uprisings, collectively known as Nupi Lal, remain enduring symbols of courage, leadership, and collective action among Manipuri women.

Following the tribute ceremony, President Murmu is scheduled to travel to the Senapati district, a key Naga-inhabited region, to address a public gathering.

She will lay the foundation stones for several development projects and inaugurate infrastructure works aimed at enhancing socio-economic progress in the district.

Preparations Mark High-Profile Visit

Preparations for the visit have been extensive. Authorities have repaired, repainted, and decorated the 7-km stretch from Bir Tikendrajit International Airport to the Nupi Lal Memorial Complex with flags, banners, and welcome hoardings in anticipation of the President’s convoy.

This marks the second major high-level visit to Manipur in three months. Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the state in September, inaugurating 17 infrastructure projects worth Rs 1,200 crore and laying foundation stones for 19 additional projects valued at Rs 7,300 crore, covering key sectors across multiple districts.

President Murmu’s visit underscores the legacy of Manipuri women’s resistance while also highlighting the Centre’s continued focus on development, peace, and unity in the region.

Her engagements in Imphal and Senapati aim to blend historical commemoration with ongoing efforts to strengthen the state’s infrastructure and socio-economic growth.
