Celebrating Basant Panchami & Saraswati Puja

Basant Panchami, also known as Vasanta Panchami, is a festival devoted to Goddess Saraswati and marks the arrival of spring. Celebrated across different regions of India, it holds deep cultural and religious significance.

The festival is not only a time to honor Goddess Saraswati but also signifies the transition from winter to spring. Known for its vibrant yellow mustard fields in full bloom, the color yellow plays a central role in the festival, symbolizing new beginnings and the wisdom of the Goddess.

Traditions & Rituals

On Basant Panchami, people traditionally wear yellow clothing, including saris, shirts, or accessories, and enjoy yellow-themed foods. Saffron is added to rice dishes, turning them into a vibrant yellow hue, which is then shared during festive meals.

In many households, an idol or image of Goddess Saraswati is placed in the worship area after being bathed in holy water from the River Ganga and dressed in yellow attire. Temples and educational institutions also celebrate the day by dressing Goddess Saraswati’s idols in yellow garments and performing special prayers.
