President Murmu Accepts Ravneet Singh Bittu’s Resignation From Union Cabinet

President Droupadi Murmu on Friday accepted the resignation of Union Minister of State for Railways and Food Processing Industries Ravneet Singh Bittu with immediate effect, bringing his tenure in the Union Council of Ministers to an end.

The President’s Secretariat said Prime Minister Narendra Modi advised accepting the resignation under Clause (2) of Article 75 of the Constitution.

Ravneet Singh Bittu had continued as a Union Minister after his Rajya Sabha term from Rajasthan ended on June 21, despite not being renominated.

Under Article 75(5) of the Constitution, a person who is not a member of either House of Parliament can remain a Minister for a maximum of six consecutive months, after which they must relinquish office if they have not secured parliamentary membership.

With his Ministerial tenure ending, BJP sources said Ravneet Singh Bittu is likely to concentrate on the party’s political activities in Punjab ahead of the Assembly elections. His exit from the Union Council of Ministers forms part of the BJP’s efforts to strengthen its campaign in the Aam Aadmi Party-ruled state, according to political observers.

The 50-year-old leader joined the BJP in 2024 after leaving the Congress. A grandson of former Punjab Chief Minister Beant Singh, he later contested the Lok Sabha elections but was unsuccessful.

Ravneet Singh Bittu recently criticised Diljit Dosanjh-starrer Satluj, saying he directed his objections at terrorism, violence and bloodshed rather than any religion. He also described Sikhism as a faith rooted in peace, courage, sacrifice and service to humanity.

Referring to the contributions of the Sikh community, Ravneet Singh Bittu highlighted its achievements in the judiciary, armed forces, public administration, business, sports, literature and science, saying these accomplishments reflected the true values of Sikhism.
