Amit Shah Reviews Gujarat Rain Situation Again As Heavy Showers Continue

Heavy rainfall continued to disrupt normal life across parts of Gujarat on Friday, prompting another high-level review by Union Home Minister and Gandhinagar MP Amit Shah.

After speaking with Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and senior officials, Shah assessed the situation with particular attention to the Ahmedabad-Gandhinagar region, where widespread waterlogging has affected daily activities.

Weather experts attributed the exceptionally heavy rainfall to the combined influence of three to four weather systems, including cyclonic circulation and the middle section of a shear zone over Ahmedabad. These conditions brought more than 18 inches of rainfall to the city, exceeding earlier forecasts.

According to party leaders, Shah reviewed conditions across Gujarat as well as in his Gandhinagar parliamentary constituency. He asked officials to minimise disruption to public life and ensure that all departments remained fully prepared to respond to any emergency.

Having reviewed the situation on Thursday as well, the Minister carried out another assessment on Friday and called for constant monitoring of low-lying areas, immediate relief and rescue operations where necessary, and swift removal of accumulated rainwater.

Shah stressed the need to keep essential public services, including healthcare, drinking water supply and electricity, operating without interruption during the spell of heavy rain.

Following these directions, the local administration stepped up its response by draining flooded areas through catch pits, drains and manholes, resolving public complaints, deploying emergency teams and removing fallen trees.

The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation continued real-time monitoring through its central control room dashboard.

Shah also appealed to people across Gujarat, including residents of the Gandhinagar Lok Sabha constituency, to avoid unnecessary travel during heavy rainfall, follow official advisories and contact the relevant government authorities immediately in case of any emergency.
