President Droupadi Murmu, PM Narendra Modi Extend Wishes On Maharashtra Day

President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday extended greetings on Maharashtra Day, highlighting the enduring legacy of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj as a source of patriotism, courage and self-respect.

In a message shared on the social media platform X, the President conveyed her wishes to the people of the state, noting that the contributions of prominent reformers and leaders have shaped Maharashtra. She referred to figures such as Jyotirao Phule, Savitribai Phule, Bal Gangadhar Tilak, Gopal Krishna Gokhale and BR Ambedkar, stating that their work provided a new direction to society and the nation.

President Murmu also acknowledged the role of Maharashtra’s people in contributing to India’s development and expressed hope for the state’s continued progress and prosperity.

Prime Minister Modi also greeted the people of the state, underlining Maharashtra’s long-standing legacy of social reform, cultural richness and leadership across multiple sectors. He pointed to the state’s contributions spanning literature, theatre, music, cinema, industry, education, science and public service.

PM Modi expressed hope for its continued development and the well-being of its citizens.

Maharashtra Day marks the formation of the state on May 1, 1960. On this day, the then Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru, along with Yashwantrao Chavan and Sri Prakasa, introduced the map of Maharashtra at Raj Bhavan in Mumbai.

The day is observed as a public holiday across the state, with celebrations including a ceremonial parade at Shivaji Park in Dadar, followed by an address by the Governor.
