President Droupadi Murmu Extends Greeting; Highlights Moral Significance Of Vijayadashami

President Droupadi Murmu on Thursday extended her heartfelt greetings to the people of India on the occasion of Vijayadashami.

She prayed for inspiration to build a nation where citizens live in peace, harmony, and mutual respect.

Vijayadashami, also known as Dussehra, falls on the tenth day of the month of Ashvin in the Hindu lunisolar calendar, marking the culmination of Shardiya Navaratri. The festival symbolises the victory of good over evil, Dharma over Adharma.

In her statement, President Murmu said, “On the auspicious occasion of Vijayadashami, I extend my heartfelt greetings and best wishes to all my countrymen. Symbolising the victory of Dharma over Adharma, the festival inspires us to follow the path of truth and justice.”

She highlighted that celebrations such as Ravana Dahan and Durga Puja across India reflect the nation’s cultural and moral values. “This festival gives us the message to abandon negative tendencies like anger and ego and adopt positive qualities such as courage, determination, and bravery,” she added.

The President expressed her hope that Vijayadashami motivates citizens to build a society where all people progress together in life with justice, equality, and harmony.

Meaning Behind the Festival

The word Vijayadashami combines ‘vijaya’, meaning victory, and ‘dashami’, the tenth day.

The festival commemorates the triumph of righteousness over evil, urging people to uphold ethical conduct, compassion, and fairness in daily life.

President Murmu’s message underlines the enduring relevance of these principles in contemporary society, promoting moral strength, social cohesion, and collective welfare.

Earlier on Thursday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also conveyed his greetings on Vijayadashami via social media.

He described the festival as a ‘symbol of the victory of good and truth over evil and untruth’, wishing that it inspires everyone to progress on the path of courage, wisdom, and devotion.

He extended his warmest greetings to all citizens, noting the importance of embracing positive qualities and contributing to the nation’s progress.

Both the President and the Prime Minister highlighted Vijayadashami as a festival that not only celebrates victory over evil but also reminds citizens to uphold moral values, promote social harmony, and strive collectively towards building a just and inclusive society.
