President Droupadi Murmu Condoles Victims Of The Goa Nightclub Blaze

President Droupadi Murmu expressed profound sorrow over the massive fire at Birch by Romeo Lane nightclub in Arpora, North Goa, which claimed at least 23 lives and left several others injured.

In a message on X, she extended her condolences to the bereaved families, describing the incident as a heartbreaking tragedy.

“Deeply pained by the tragic fire incident in North Goa district resulting in the loss of precious lives. My heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families. May they find strength during this difficult time. I pray for the speedy recovery of those injured,” the President wrote.

Earlier, Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant also expressed grief over the tragedy.

Posting on X, he said, “Today is a very painful day for all of us in Goa. A major fire incident at Arpora has taken the lives of 23 people. I am deeply grieved and offer my heartfelt condolences to all the bereaved families in this hour of unimaginable loss.”

He added that he had visited the site and ordered a formal inquiry to ascertain the exact cause of the fire and to ensure whether fire safety norms and building regulations were followed.

“Those found responsible will face most stringent action under the law- any negligence will be dealt with firmly,” Sawant affirmed.

Inside the Midnight Fire Incident

The fire erupted just past midnight on Saturday at the popular club near Baga beach, a hotspot for locals and tourists.

Preliminary reports from police suggest that a cylinder explosion inside the premises triggered the inferno, which spread rapidly and left many staff members with little time to escape.

Authorities immediately deployed firefighters from multiple stations, and the teams battled the flames well into the early hours of Sunday.

Rescue teams sifted through debris in search of survivors and worked to control residual hotspots. Authorities confirmed that a large number of the victims were employees of the club.

Senior officials, including the Director General of Police and North Goa district teams, coordinated relief and rescue efforts at the site.

The incident has, however, sparked nationwide concern, highlighting safety issues at nightlife venues.

Investigations are ongoing, with authorities working to identify all victims, determine the cause of the fire, and evaluate adherence to safety standards.
