PM Modi Announces Compensation Following Tragic Goa Nightclub Fire

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has conveyed deep sorrow over the devastating fire at Birch by Romeo Lane nightclub in Arpora, Goa, which claimed 25 lives, including four tourists and 14 staff members.

Doctors are treating six injured people, and authorities have yet to confirm the identities of seven victims.

Taking to X, PM Modi posted, “The fire mishap in Arpora, Goa is deeply saddening. My thoughts are with all those who have lost their loved ones. May the injured recover at the earliest. Spoke to Goa CM Dr. Pramod Sawant Ji about the situation. The State Government is providing all possible assistance to those affected.”

The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) confirmed that an ex gratia payment of Rs 2 lakh from the PMNRF will be provided to the next of kin of each deceased, while those injured will receive Rs 50,000.

The move aims to offer immediate financial relief to affected families amid the ongoing tragedy.

Details of the Fire and Rescue Operations

The fire broke out around midnight at the popular club located in Goa’s bustling Baga area.

Preliminary reports suggest that an LPG cylinder explosion may have triggered the blaze, which spread rapidly, leaving little time for staff and visitors to escape.

Authorities immediately deployed firefighters from multiple stations, and rescue teams continued operations into the early hours of Sunday. Teams sifted through debris to locate survivors and contain residual hotspots.

Authorities confirmed that many of the victims were employees working in the basement when the fire erupted, contributing to the high casualty count.

Senior officials, including the Director General of Police and North Goa district teams, rushed to the site to coordinate rescue and relief efforts.

Investigations into the cause of the fire are ongoing, with authorities working to determine the exact sequence of events leading to the tragedy.

The incident has prompted widespread concern about safety standards in popular nightlife spots. Officials have vowed to conduct thorough inquiries and take strict action against any negligence identified.
