Prayagraj Maha Kumbh: A Cultural & Economic Game Changer

Maha Kumbh 2025 in Prayagraj will likely create a significant cultural, social, and economic impact, with Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath emphasizing its potential to generate Rs 2 lakh crore in business. Experts also predict a 1% boost to Uttar Pradesh’s GDP and a substantial rise in GST collections during the 45-day mega event.

The spending by millions of devotees from around the world is expected to enhance demand, leading to increased production, job creation, and greater financial flow for businesses of all sizes.

Additionally, the substantial revenue generated for the government will be reinvested in state infrastructure, accelerating overall development.

Maha Kumbh 2025 is a major step toward achieving CM Yogi Adityanath’s vision of making Uttar Pradesh a one trillion-dollar economy.

Significant Economic Projections

Renowned CA and economist Pankaj Gandhi Jaiswal stated that Maha Kumbh 2025 could increase both nominal and real GDP by up to 1%.

The Uttar Pradesh government estimates that approximately 45 crore domestic and international visitors will attend.

Factoring in an average per capita expenditure of Rs 10,000 – including travel, stay, and other costs – the total economic activity could amount to Rs 4.5 lakh crore.

Even with a conservative margin of error, the economic contribution would still exceed Rs 4 lakh crore, significantly boosting quarterly GDP figures and contributing to the nation’s annual GDP growth.

Jaiswal emphasized that the government’s Rs 16,000 crore investment in Maha Kumbh 2025 will likely yield exponential returns.

For instance, GST collections from the projected Rs 4 lakh crore economic activity could reach Rs 50,000 crore.

Including income tax and other indirect taxes, total revenue could surpass Rs 1 lPrayagrajakh crore, demonstrating the multiplier effect of this investment.

These projections highlight the substantial economic benefits beyond theoretical calculations.

The financial gains will likely invigorate the economy and even influence the stock market through robust quarterly figures.

Wide-Reaching Economic Impact

Noted CA Anil Gupta from Prayagraj highlighted the event’s wide-reaching economic impact.

The government’s substantial investment will likely generate revenue from avenues such as railways, transport, electricity, and rental income for allotted land.

Combined, these could contribute around Rs 1 lakh crore, including GST and infrastructure earnings.

The reinvestment of this revenue will create a cascading economic effect, further boosting tourism.

Prayagraj, now equipped with 5-star and 7-star hotels, caters to international visitors, further enhancing its economic profile.

These developments will likely drive a 1% GDP growth increase.

GST collections across Uttar Pradesh, especially in Prayagraj, are likely to triple during December, January, and February, creating a lasting economic impact for the state.

Expert Opinions On Economic Gains

Dr. AK Singhal, retired Dean of Commerce and Finance Officer at Allahabad University, praised the government’s efforts in organizing Maha Kumbh 2025.

“The economic impact will be tremendous, benefiting the entire state, including Prayagraj. Crores of people from across the country and abroad will come here and spend money, directly boosting the incomes of transport operators, local vendors, shopkeepers, rickshaw pullers, taxi drivers, and boatmen,” he said.

Dr. Singhal estimated that the event could generate Rs 40,000 to Rs 50,000 crore, with the government potentially earning up to ten times its investment.

“This revenue will be reinvested into the state’s development, strengthening the vision of Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas. Both the state and national economy will see significant benefits,” he added.

Visitors to Maha Kumbh often extend their journeys to destinations like Ayodhya, Chitrakoot, Varanasi, Vindhyachal, and Prayagraj, contributing to Uttar Pradesh’s revenue.

GST collections in the state will likely witness a surge.

Dr. Singhal emphasized that this increased revenue would drive development, enhance purchasing power, and create a positive economic cycle, ensuring lasting growth for the state and beyond.
