Jan Suraaj founder Prashant Kishor took the oath as a Member of the Legislative Assembly in Bihar after an historical victory in the Bankipur by-election.
The ceremony took place in the office of Bihar Assembly Speaker Prem Kumar, who administered the oath.
Many of the Jan Suraaj Party leaders witnessed the oath ceremony, including state president Manoj Bharti and Speaker Kumar Saurabh Singh.
After taking the oath, Kishor addressed the media, saying, “It is a matter of great pride for me to become a member of the Bihar Legislative Assembly, a House where stalwarts like Bharat Ratna Karpoori Thakur, Nitish Kumar, and Lalu Yadav have served. Alongside them, hundreds of other MLAs and members of the House have dedicated the precious years of their lives to the betterment of society and the state. I aim to draw inspiration from all of them and contribute meaningfully to the state and society.”
Bankipur win marks the beginning of Kishor’s political journey, who turned politician from a poll strategist and officially launched Jan Suraaj Party on 2nd October 2024.
Prashant Kishor defeated BJP candidate Neeraj Kumar in the by-poll with a 19,324-vote margin by securing 64,151 votes and became the first elected member from the party.
Neeraj Kumar got 44,827 votes and was in second position while RJD candidate Rekha Gupta was in third position with 14,273 votes.
Bankipur by-election took place on 30 July, followed by the result on 3 August. This result ended the BJP’s long-standing dominance over this constituency, which the party had held since 1995.
Kishor’s victory is particularly significant in the Bihar political discourse and is being deemed a major achievement for the newly founded Jan Suraaj because Bankipur has traditionally been considered a BJP stronghold.
In other news from Bihar, a stampede occurred in Lakhisarai Ashok Dham Mandir.
Prashant Kishor, however, reacted to the incident and said, “I have just received the news. I will go there.”
