Prime Minister Narendra Modi assigned portfolios to 71 ministers on Monday who took oath a day before.
The full list of portfolios was released after a meeting of ministers at the Prime Minister’s residence. Previous Ministers have reclaimed the top 4 high profile ministries. Prime Minister Narendra Modi retained Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh, Nirmala Sitharaman and S. Jaishankar as Home Minister, Defence Minister, Finance and Foreign Minister respectively.
Among newcomers to the Union Council of Ministries are former Chief Ministers of Madhya Pradesh and Haryana. Shivraj Singh has been awarded Agricultural Ministery whereas Manohar Lal Khattar got Power and Urban Affairs Ministry. Former BJP President Jagat Prakash Nadda who served in the first term of Modi, received Health Ministry. Nadda held the same portfolio in 2014 in the first term of the Modi government.
Among allies, JD(S)’s HD Kumaraswamy got heavy industries and steel ministry, and Jitam Ram Manjhi of HAM awarded MSME Ministry. Lalan Singh of Janta Dal United received Panchayati Raj, Fishery, Animal Husbandry, and Dairy Ministry.
LJP(Ramvilas Pawan) leader Chirag Paswan has been allocated the Food Processing Industries Ministry whereas TDP’s Rammohan Naidu has got the Civil Aviation Ministry.
