Polygraph Tests And Raids Intensify In RG Kar Medical College Case

The polygraph test of Sanjay Roy, the sole individual arrested in connection with the rape and murder of a junior doctor at R.G. Kar Medical College & Hospital, began on Sunday afternoon, according to sources. The test is being conducted at the Presidency Central Correctional Home in South Kolkata, where Roy has been held since a lower court remanded him to 14 days of judicial custody on August 23.

Roy, a civic volunteer, remains the only person apprehended in the case so far.

Simultaneously, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) continued conducting polygraph tests on six additional suspects at its Salt Lake office. This process, on Saturday afternoon, is ongoing due to the time-consuming nature of the tests, not conduct simultaneously for all suspects.

Polygraph Testing

The six individuals undergoing polygraph testing include Dr. Sandip Ghosh, the former principal of R.G. Kar Medical College, another civic volunteer closely associated with Roy, and four postgraduate medical students who were in the same building at the time of the crime.

In related developments, the CBI has increased its presence during raids and search operations at Dr. Ghosh’s residence in Beliaghata. On Sunday morning, seven CBI officials, including women, began the raid. By early afternoon, six additional officials had joined the team.

The CBI is also conducting parallel raids at three other locations: the residences of R.G. Kar’s former medical superintendent and vice-principal Sanjay Vashisth in Entally, the Demonstrator of the hospital’s forensic medicine department Debasish Som Keshtopur in northern Kolkata, and medical equipment supplier Biplab Sinha in Howrah district.

These raids are part of a broader investigation into financial irregularities at R.G. Kar Medical College and Hospital during Ghosh’s tenure. The CBI is examining multiple allegations of fund mismanagement, involving 15 specific charges.
