Polling Ends For 29 Municipal Corporations In Maharashtra Including Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation

Voting for 29 municipal corporations across Maharashtra, including the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), concluded on Thursday after nearly four years.

Citizens cast their votes to elect local representatives, marking a crucial exercise in the state’s democracy.

Voters cast their ballots in municipal elections across cities such as Mumbai, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Navi Mumbai, Vasai-Virar, Kalyan-Dombivli, Kolhapur, Nagpur, Solapur, Amravati, Akola, Nashik, Pimpri-Chinchwad, Pune, Ulhasnagar, Thane, Chandrapur, Parbhani, Mira-Bhayandar, Nanded-Waghala, Panvel, Bhiwandi-Nizampur, Latur, Malegaon, Sangli-Miraj-Kupwad, Jalgaon, Ahilyanagar, Dhule, Jalna, and Ichalkaranji.

The elections covered a total of 2,869 seats, with around 3.48 crore voters eligible to participate, including 1.81 crore men, 1.66 crore women, and 4,596 others.

Nearly 3.48 crore voters cast their ballots for 15,908 candidates.

In Mumbai, voters turned out in 30 per cent by 1:30 PM, and the turnout rose to 41.08 per cent by mid-afternoon.

The polls carry significant political implications.

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, and Ajit Pawar face reputational challenges. Meanwhile, the Shiv Sena factions led by Uddhav and Raj Thackeray attempt a potential alliance to regain control of the BMC.

To ensure safe and peaceful voting, Mumbai deployed around 28,000 police personnel, while 64,375 officials managed elections across 227 seats.

All eyes are now on the results, which are scheduled to be announced on Friday, Jan 16, potentially reshaping Maharashtra’s political map.
