Political Puzzle In Bihar: Nitish Kumar’s Potential Return to NDA Sparks Speculation

In recent developments in Bihar’s political arena, rumors are circulating that Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, the head of the Janata Dal United, might reconsider his political alliances ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Reports suggest dissatisfaction within the JD(U) camp regarding the alliance with Lalu Prasad Yadav’s Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) in the current Mahagathbandhan coalition, which also includes the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

1. Speculations on JD(U)-RJD Split:

There is speculation that Nitish Kumar’s JD(U) could potentially sever ties with the RJD and return to the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA). The chief minister is reportedly disappointed with the alliance dynamics, feeling that his party’s standing within the coalition does not reflect his political stature. Additionally, Kumar has expressed a preference for an early assembly poll in conjunction with the Lok Sabha elections, a proposal met with resistance from the RJD.

2. Key Meetings in Patna:

Meetings were held in Patna on a crucial evening where JD(U) leaders convened at Nitish Kumar’s residence, while RJD leaders met at Lalu Yadav’s house. Bihar BJP president Samrat Chaudhary and former deputy chief minister Sushil Modi are expected to meet Union Home Minister Amit Shah and other senior party leaders, signaling a potential realignment of political alliances.

3. Statements from JD(U) Leaders:

JD(U) leader KC Tyagi spoke to the media, asserting that the INDIA alliance remains intact and everything is fine within the coalition. Regarding Nitish Kumar’s comments on dynastic politics and criticism from Rohini Acharya, Tyagi dismissed the latter’s remarks, stating that comments on children are not worthy of response.

4. BJP’s Stance:

Union Minister Giriraj Singh, representing the BJP, emphasized that the party is not welcoming Nitish Kumar back into its fold, deeming him an unreliable politician. Sushil Kumar Modi, in an interview with News 18, emphasized that the central leadership holds the authority to decide on alliance matters.
