In recent developments in Bihar’s political arena, rumors are circulating that Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, the head of the Janata Dal United, might reconsider his political alliances ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Reports suggest dissatisfaction within the JD(U) camp regarding the alliance with Lalu Prasad Yadav’s Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) in the current Mahagathbandhan coalition, which also includes the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

The chief minister is reportedly disappointed with the alliance dynamics, feeling that his party’s standing within the coalition does not reflect his political stature. Additionally, Kumar has expressed a preference for an early assembly poll in conjunction with the Lok Sabha elections, a proposal met with resistance from the RJD.

Meetings were held in Patna on a crucial evening where JD(U) leaders convened at Nitish Kumar’s residence, while RJD leaders met at Lalu Yadav’s house. Bihar BJP president Samrat Chaudhary and former deputy chief minister Sushil Modi are expected to meet Union Home Minister Amit Shah and other senior party leaders, signaling a potential realignment of political alliances.
