PM Starmer Leads Biggest UK Trade Mission Ever To India On Historic First Visit

UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer touched down in India on Wednesday, steering what he called the UK’s largest trade delegation to the country.

His two-day official trip underlines the expanding economic and strategic partnership between the two nations.

Addressing Indian business leaders, Starmer said, “This is the biggest trade mission that the United Kingdom has ever sent to India. Obviously, this is a two-parter. We had Prime Minister (Narendra) Modi over to the United Kingdom earlier this year to sign the FTA.”

Prime Minister Modi welcomed his British counterpart via X, stating, “Welcome Prime Minister Keir Starmer on your historic first visit to India with the largest ever trade delegation from the UK. Looking forward to our meeting tomorrow for advancing our shared vision of a stronger, mutually prosperous future.”

During the visit, both leaders will assess progress under the India-UK Comprehensive Strategic Partnership via the ‘Vision 2035’ roadmap.

This 10-year plan spans trade, investment, technology, innovation, defence, security, climate, energy, health, education and cultural exchanges.

Starmer’s Mumbai visit included a stop at a football training centre.

UK PM also toured the Yash Raj Films Studio with Bollywood actor Rani Mukerji.

He also watched a film alongside Mukerji and CEO Akshaye Widhani.

Furthermore, Starmer announced that three Yash Raj Films projects will be shot in the UK from 2026.

Gradually, it will generate more than 3,000 jobs for British workers.

British Airways confirmed its support for the trade mission and reiterated its plans to expand operations in India.

The airline said it played a key role in facilitating the UK government’s delegation, reflecting strengthened bilateral business ties.

In a post on Instagram, Starmer highlighted the mutual benefits of closer economic cooperation, stating, “growth in India for British businesses means more jobs at home for the British people.”

The visit demonstrates the UK’s commitment to deepening trade, investment, and cultural partnerships with India.

By engaging businesses, promoting creative industries, and expanding aviation links, Starmer aims to strengthen the long-term strategic and economic relationship between the two nations.
