On Tuesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will likely visit Rajasthan, where he will inaugurate a large refinery and petrochemical complex in the Balotra region.
The facility, located at Pachpadra, will be formally dedicated to the nation during an event scheduled for late morning, followed by a public address.
The project, developed jointly by Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited and the Rajasthan government, represents one of the country’s biggest investments in the energy sector, with a total cost exceeding Rs 79,000 crore.
Designed with an annual capacity of 9 million metric tonnes, the complex combines crude oil refining with petrochemical production. It processes a wide variety of crude inputs and produces a range of value-added products used across industries.
Officials say the facility meets advanced global standards, with high processing complexity and strong output efficiency, including a significant share of petrochemical products.
Beyond fuel production, the project will likely support a wider industrial ecosystem. It is likely to encourage the growth of downstream sectors such as plastics and chemical manufacturing, while also strengthening domestic supply chains.
The refinery strengthens India’s energy security by reducing reliance on imports and expanding domestic production capacity.
In addition, the project will likely generate employment and drive economic activity in the region, with plans for a petrochemical and plastic park linked to the complex.
Authorities believe the initiative will play a key role in transforming the industrial landscape of the area while contributing to the country’s broader economic growth.
