PM Narendra Modi Targets SP, Congress Over Delay In Noida Airport Project

On Saturday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a sharp political attack on the Samajwadi Party and the Indian National Congress, accusing them of delaying the development of the Noida International Airport, which he inaugurated earlier in the day.

Addressing a gathering in Jewar, PM Modi said the airport stands as an example of the ‘double-engine’ governance model, with aligned governments at the Centre and in the state accelerating development.

PM Modi stated that Noida, once held back by previous administrations, is now playing a major role in driving Uttar Pradesh’s economic progress. He alleged that earlier, the region was misused and underdeveloped, but is now being transformed into a growth hub.

Highlighting the long delay in execution, PM Modi noted that the airport project had originally received approval during the tenure of Atal Bihari Vajpayee in 2003. He said that despite the passage of many years, the project did not move forward under subsequent governments.

PM Modi further claimed that between 2004 and 2014, when the Congress was in power at the Centre, the project remained stalled. He added that even after a change in government at the national level, initial progress was slow due to the then Samajwadi Party government in Uttar Pradesh.

According to PM Modi, construction only gained pace after BJP-led governments took charge both at the Centre and in the state, ultimately leading to the airport’s completion.

PM Modi also referred to the so-called ‘Noida jinx’, a political belief suggesting that sitting chief ministers risk losing power if they visit the city. He said such thinking had contributed to the neglect of the region in the past.

Recalling his earlier visit, PM Modi said he chose to ignore such warnings, viewing the land as an opportunity to serve the nation for a longer time.

Emphasising the broader impact, PM Modi said the airport will boost connectivity, attract global attention, and strengthen India’s push towards self-reliance.
