On Monday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said his recent interaction with grassroots workers in West Bengal indicates increasing public support for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the state.
During a visit to Siliguri on Sunday, the Prime Minister met local party activists and commended their work at the ground level. He later shared his observations on social media, describing the engagement as encouraging and praising workers for their efforts.
According to PM Modi, party members highlighted challenges faced by residents under the All India Trinamool Congress government and expressed confidence that voters are responding positively to the BJP’s development-focused approach. He added that these discussions reflected a shift in public sentiment in favour of his party.
The Prime Minister had earlier addressed a large rally in Siliguri, where supporters gathered in significant numbers, raising slogans and waving party flags.
Visuals shared online showed enthusiastic crowds welcoming him during the event.
In his speech, PM Modi criticised the state government led by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, accusing it of prioritising selective policies over balanced regional development. He also raised concerns about resource allocation and alleged that certain areas, including North Bengal, had not received adequate attention.
The Prime Minister further claimed that the state administration had created obstacles in the implementation of central welfare schemes.
With political activity intensifying in West Bengal, the exchange marks a continuation of sharp rhetoric between the BJP and the Trinamool Congress ahead of upcoming electoral contests.
