PM Narendra Modi Marks Pahalgam Attack Anniversary; Reaffirms India’s Resolve Against Terrorism

On Wednesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tribute to those killed in the Pahalgam terror attack, marking its first anniversary and reaffirming that India remains resolute against terrorism.

Taking to X, PM Modi posted, “Remembering the innocent lives lost in the gruesome Pahalgam terror attack on this day last year. They will never be forgotten. My thoughts are also with the bereaved families as they cope with this loss.”

“As a nation, we stand united in grief and resolve. India will never bow to any form of terror. The heinous designs of terrorists will never succeed,” the post further read.

Earlier, the Indian Army also issued a strong message, reiterating its readiness to respond to any act against the nation.

Echoing a similar sentiment, the Army said in a post on X, “For acts against #India, the response is assured. Justice will be served. Always. #SindoorAnniversary #JusticeEndures #NationFirst.”

Pahalgam Attack and Aftermath

The attack took place on 22 April, 2025 in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, where 26 people lost their lives. The assault was carried out by The Resistance Front, an offshoot of Lashkar-e-Taiba, and is considered one of the most brutal attacks on civilians in recent years.

The attackers reportedly singled out victims based on religion, forcing them to recite Islamic phrases to identify non-Muslims before opening fire. Many were shot at close range, often in front of their families. Those killed included 25 tourists and a local pony operator who tried to protect them.

In the aftermath, Indian security forces launched extensive operations to track down those responsible.

Operation Mahadev involved a prolonged search across difficult Himalayan terrain and eventually led to the elimination of the key perpetrators.

India later carried out Operation Sindoor in early May 2025, targeting terror infrastructure across the border in what officials described as a focused and measured response.

The operation led to heightened tensions. These included cross-border shelling and drone activity. A ceasefire understanding was, however, reached on May 10.
