PM Narendra Modi, Leaders Change Profile Pictures To Mark Operation Sindoor Anniversary

A year after India launched Operation Sindoor in response to the Pahalgam terror attack, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and several Union Ministers commemorated the occasion by changing their social media profile pictures on Thursday.

The tribute quickly gained visibility online after PM Modi updated his display image on X with artwork dedicated to the military operation.

Other senior Cabinet members, including S Jaishankar, Nirmala Sitharaman and Piyush Goyal, followed with similar profile changes.

The anniversary marks one year since Indian armed forces carried out coordinated strikes on terror facilities in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir during the night of May 6-7 last year.

India launched Operation Sindoor after terrorists killed 26 civilians in the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam.

Investigators had linked the attack to Pakistan-backed terrorists. The Resistance Front, considered an offshoot of Lashkar-e-Taiba, later claimed responsibility.

The killings had triggered nationwide outrage after reports emerged that the attackers allegedly separated victims on the basis of religion and forced them to recite the Islamic ‘kalima’. Those killed included tourists visiting Kashmir and a local pony ride operator who reportedly tried to rescue them. Several victims were newly married couples travelling with family members.

On the anniversary, the Indian Army released messages and visuals remembering the operation. It described the mission as a carefully planned response against terrorism.

In one post, the Army said the mission reflected India’s determination to protect its sovereignty and citizens.

Another message from the Headquarters of the Indian Defence Staff referred to Operation Sindoor as a representation of ‘national resolve’.

A commemorative video released by the Army revisited the events that followed the Pahalgam killings. It also showed preparations leading up to the cross-border strikes.

The video also included previous speeches by PM Modi warning of strong action against terrorists and their supporters.

Among the remarks highlighted was the Prime Minister’s statement that India would ‘identify, track and punish every terrorist and their backers’.

The video also featured another remark by PM Modi emphasising India’s stand on cross-border terrorism. In the clip, he said terror and dialogue could not continue together.

Officials said Operation Sindoor was a limited and focused military response. They said the operation targeted terror infrastructure without escalating the conflict further.

According to the government, the operation strengthened India’s security posture and reinforced its policy of zero tolerance towards terrorism.
