PM Narendra Modi Calls Interaction With Padma Awardees In Gangtok Insightful

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday stated that he held an engaging interaction with Padma awardees and several distinguished individuals during his visit to Gangtok. He described the exchange as insightful and wide-ranging.

Taking to X, PM Modi posted, “In Gangtok earlier this evening, interacted with Padma awardees and people who have distinguished themselves in different fields. It was wonderful discussing a wide range of issues.”

Earlier in the day, Gangtok witnessed an overwhelming public turnout during the Prime Minister’s roadshow held as part of the closing ceremony of Sikkim’s 50th statehood anniversary. Thousands of residents gathered across the capital to welcome him.

People began assembling from early morning, filling the streets and creating a vibrant atmosphere. Residents travelled from distant and remote regions to witness the occasion, turning the roadshow into a large civic event.

Bikash Basnet, Political Secretary to the Chief Minister, described the turnout as unprecedented. He noted widespread enthusiasm and called the moment historic for the people of Sikkim.

Kunzang Gyatso, Everest climber and President of the Sikkim Sports Climbing Association, said the visit inspired the youth and energised the community. He acknowledged the role of Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang in facilitating the event.

Subedar Ranjit Khaling, a retired Army personnel, termed the visit a proud moment for the state. He further highlighted the significance of a national leader visiting a smaller northeastern region.

Celebrations continued across Gangtok after the roadshow, with residents gathering, singing, and participating in festivities, reflecting a jubilant and unified public spirit.
