Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for significantly raising the state’s share of central devolution in the Union Budget.
CM Sarma said this reflected the Centre’s continued trust in Assam’s development trajectory and commitment to inclusive growth.
Highlighting the allocation of ₹49,725 crore for Assam, CM Sarma noted that the enhanced funding would strongly support the state’s ambitious infrastructure, education, healthcare, connectivity, and social welfare programmes.
He posted on X that the Union government had consistently prioritised Assam’s growth and rewarded its positive economic momentum under the vision of Viksit Bharat.
State officials said the increased devolution would enhance Assam’s fiscal capacity, providing greater flexibility to implement region-specific development schemes and accelerate major infrastructure projects such as highways, bridges, railways, inland waterways, and urban development initiatives.
Sarma emphasised that Assam’s improved financial position stemmed from sustained reforms, improved governance, and effective utilisation of central funds, alongside steady growth in the state’s own tax and non-tax revenues.
Political analysts observed that the enhanced allocation comes as Assam positions itself as a key growth engine in the Northeast, focusing on logistics, tourism, manufacturing, and energy sectors.
CM Sarma stated that the additional funds would enable the government to further scale development programmes in line with the Centre’s broader vision of balanced and inclusive regional growth under Viksit Bharat.
