PM Modi Urges Stronger District Budget Provisions To Maximise Agricultural Development Impact Nationwide

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday called for stronger budgetary provisions at the district level to ensure the Union Budget delivers maximum impact across India’s agricultural landscape.

He noted that agriculture remains a state subject and emphasised that state governments must actively fulfil their financial responsibilities.

Addressing the third post-Budget webinar, the Prime Minister acknowledged the constructive participation of stakeholders during the formulation of the national budget.

He said the country must now focus on translating budget announcements into tangible outcomes on the ground.

PM Modi highlighted several flagship initiatives designed to strengthen farmers’ economic security.

He cited the success of the PM Kisan Samman Nidhi, under which nearly 10 crore farmers have collectively received more than ₹4 lakh crore in financial assistance.

He also referred to the PM Fasal Bima Yojana, stating that around ₹2 lakh crore in insurance claims have been settled to safeguard farmers against crop losses.

Additionally, he emphasised reforms in the Minimum Support Price system that ensure farmers receive returns at least 1.5 times the cost of production.

According to the Prime Minister, institutional credit access has expanded significantly and now covers more than 75 per cent of farmers.

These initiatives, he said, have reduced agricultural risks and strengthened rural financial stability.

Focus On High-Value Agriculture

The Prime Minister outlined several proposals in the Union Budget aimed at promoting region-specific high-value crops.

These include cocoa, cashew, and sandalwood cultivation in suitable regions, along with agarwood promotion in the northeastern states and temperate nut crops in Himalayan areas.

He explained that export-oriented agricultural production can generate large-scale rural employment through food processing and value addition.

Such measures, he added, will enhance the global competitiveness of India’s agriculture sector.

PM Modi also pointed to opportunities in fisheries, noting that India already ranks as the world’s second-largest fish producer.

Current production from reservoirs and ponds stands at approximately 4.5 lakh tonnes, yet an additional 20 lakh tonnes could be achieved.

He further highlighted India’s leadership in dairy production and its position as the second-largest egg producer globally.

The Prime Minister emphasised the need for improved breeding, disease prevention, and scientific livestock management.

Concluding his remarks, Prime Minister Modi stressed that livestock health remains integral to the broader vision of ‘One Earth, One Health’, linking animal welfare with global food security.
