Prime Minister Narendra Modi has called on the Indian athletes who participated in the Paris Olympics to take an active role in the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign, a nationwide environmental initiative.
During an interaction at his residence on Thursday, PM Modi emphasized the importance of environmental conservation and urged the athletes to contribute by planting trees in their communities.
The Prime Minister stated, “Today, the country is running a campaign called ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ to save the environment. I urge all of you to join this campaign and plant a tree with your mother. Many of you come from villages and ordinary families. In Paris, you saw how they are promoting the environment. So, when you visit your villages, encourage people to adopt natural farming.”
He also stressed the importance of the athletes serving as role models for the youth, particularly in promoting physical fitness and environmental stewardship.
PM Modi expressed confidence that these athletes would motivate others to engage in activities that benefit both nature and society.
Launched by PM Modi on World Environment Day, the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign aims to plant 800 million saplings by September 2024, with a goal of reaching 1.4 billion by March 2025.
The initiative is part of a broader effort to enhance environmental sustainability across the country.
In addition to discussing environmental efforts, PM Modi highlighted the significance of the Khelo India program in nurturing sports talent from the grassroots level.
He underscored the government’s commitment to building a world-class sports ecosystem and emphasized the need to give further support and attention to the program.
