Aman Sehrawat
New Delhi, Aug 16: Prime Minister Narendra Modi shared another lighthearted exchange, this time with Paris Olympics bronze medalist wrestler Aman Sehrawat. The interaction took place at PM Modi’s residence when he met the Indian Olympic contingent.
PM Modi congratulated Aman on becoming India’s youngest Olympic medalist. With a smile, he asked Aman if he had enjoyed his favorite foods after returning from Paris. The 21-year-old wrestler from Haryana grinned and replied, “I haven’t gone home yet, sir.”
PM Modi jokingly responded, “You should’ve told us; we could’ve made something for you!”
In his Haryanvi accent, Aman Sehrawat replied with simplicity, “Once I’m home, I’ll definitely have choorma.”
Aman, who lost his parents at age 10, lives and trains at New Delhi’s Chhatrasal Stadium. He won the bronze medal by defeating Puerto Rico’s Darian Toi Cruz 13-5 at the Champ-de-Mars Arena, continuing India’s wrestling success at the Olympics since 2008.
Aman joins the ranks of Indian Olympic medalist wrestlers like Sushil Kumar, Yogeshwar Dutt, Sakshi Malik, Ravi Dahiya, and Bajrang Punia.
Earlier, PM Modi had a candid exchange with silver medalist Neeraj Chopra before the athletes left for Paris. In their playful conversation, PM Modi joked, “I haven’t received my churma yet,” sparking laughter.
Neeraj, smiling shyly, replied, “This time, I’ll bring churma from Haryana. Last time, it was the sugary one from Delhi.”
The Prime Minister expressed his craving for homemade churma, saying, “I want to taste churma made by your mother.”
Neeraj’s mother, Saroj Devi, later promised to send PM Modi a special batch of choorma, a popular delicacy from Haryana and Rajasthan.
