PM Modi Unveils LIC Bima Sakhi Yojana To Promote Women’s Financial Inclusion

Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the LIC Bima Sakhi Yojana on Monday, an initiative aimed at empowering women with financial knowledge and creating opportunities for them to become insurance agents.

The scheme, introduced by the Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC), targets women aged 18 to 70 years who have completed at least Class X education.

The programme will offer them specialized training, along with a stipend for the first three years, to foster financial literacy and insurance awareness.

Upon successful completion of the training, participants will be eligible to serve as LIC agents and could eventually qualify for Development Officer roles within the corporation.

During the event, PM Modi presented appointment certificates to the first batch of Bima Sakhis.

He highlighted the government’s efforts to link financial services directly to women’s bank accounts through schemes like PM Jan Dhan Yojana, enhancing access to essential services.

“I congratulate all the sisters of the country. A few years ago, I had the privilege of starting the ‘Beti Bachao-Beti Padhao’ campaign from Panipat. It had a positive impact not only in Haryana but in the entire country. Now, after 10 years, ‘Bima Sakhi Yojana’ has been started for sisters and daughters from this land of Panipat. Our Panipat has become a symbol of women’s power,” the Prime Minister said at the event in Panipat.

This initiative, he added, will support India’s ‘Insurance for All’ mission.

The Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority (IRDAI) aims to achieve full saturation by 2047.

The Prime Minister further added, “To empower women, it is very important that they get ample opportunities to move forward and every obstacle in their way is removed.”

He praised the efforts of women involved in self-help groups, recognizing their role in shaping a more inclusive economy.

PM Modi Lays Foundation For Horticultural University In Karnal

During the programme, the Prime Minister also laid the foundation stone for the main campus of Maharana Pratap Horticultural University in Karnal.

The campus, along with six regional research stations spanning 495 acres, will developed at a cost exceeding Rs 700 crore.

The university will feature a College of Horticulture offering undergraduate and postgraduate studies, along with five schools covering 10 horticulture disciplines.

It will focus on crop diversification and cutting-edge research to advance horticultural technologies.
