PM Modi To Visit Himachal Pradesh & Punjab For Flood Review

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Himachal Pradesh and Punjab on Tuesday to take stock of the devastating floods and landslides that have severely affected both states.

The visit underlines the Centre’s commitment to providing immediate support and long-term solutions in the wake of the natural disaster.

The Prime Minister will arrive in Kangra, Himachal Pradesh, at approximately 1:30 PM and conduct an aerial survey of the affected areas.

Following this, he will chair a high-level review meeting with state officials, central disaster agencies, and teams from the NDRF, SDRF, and Aapda Mitra.

In the second half of the day, PM Modi will proceed to Punjab, where he will survey flood-affected regions from the air around 3:00 PM. He will then arrive in Gurdaspur by 4:15 PM, where another review meeting will take place.

The Prime Minister will meet with officials and also interact with residents who have been impacted by the floods.

Centre’s Active Involvement

According to BJP sources, the Prime Minister’s direct visit is aimed at ensuring that relief and rehabilitation work is being carried out efficiently.

It also serves to personally assess the scale of destruction and the requirements for further central support.

Ahead of the visit, Punjab Cabinet Minister and AAP State President Aman Arora welcomed the Prime Minister but urged him to avoid turning the visit into mere ‘flood tourism’.

He demanded a ₹20,000 crore relief package, citing the grave extent of damage to infrastructure, agriculture, and livelihoods in Punjab.

Arora also called for the release of ₹60,000 crore in pending central funds, including GST compensation, and funds under the Rural Development Fund and Market Development Fund.

Situation on the Ground

Floodwaters in Punjab have inundated more than 4.5 lakh acres of farmland, affected over three lakh livestock, and caused widespread damage to hundreds of homes.

Meanwhile, Himachal Pradesh has witnessed severe destruction, with landslides wiping out public infrastructure and levelling homes in several hilly districts.

Welcoming the Prime Minister’s visit, Leader of the Opposition in Himachal Pradesh, Jairam Thakur, expressed hope for swift support and aid.

He said the state is grateful for PM Modi’s support and presence during a time of distress. Thakur plans to brief the Prime Minister on the extent of damage and request maximum financial aid for recovery.

He also acknowledged the support of central agencies such as the NDRF, Indian Army, and Indian Air Force in executing prompt rescue and relief operations.

PM Modi aims to expedite relief efforts, accelerate rehabilitation work, and fast-track fund allocation in both states.

It marks a crucial step in mobilising coordinated efforts across central and state agencies to restore normalcy and rebuild affected communities.
