Prime Minister Narendra Modi will begin a two-day visit to Gujarat on 25-26 August, during which he will inaugurate and lay the foundation stone for road projects valued at Rs 307 crore across Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, and Mehsana districts.
The initiatives, undertaken by the state’s Roads and Buildings Department, aim to improve regional connectivity, ease congestion, and accelerate industrial development in North Gujarat.
A key project to be inaugurated is the widening of the 21-km Viramgam–Khudad–Rampura stretch.
Expanded to a width of seven metres at a cost of Rs 33 crore, the upgraded road is likely to spur industrial activity in nearby clusters and create employment opportunities.
The Prime Minister will also lay the foundation for works worth Rs 274 crore. These include:
Officials said the projects would not only improve road safety but also save travel time and fuel costs.
Better connectivity will likely support logistics, industrial growth, and tourism, especially around hubs like GIFT City and destinations such as Thol Bird Sanctuary.
Gujarat has developed a reputation as one of India’s leaders in road infrastructure, with over 1.15 lakh km of roads connecting ports, industrial centres, and rural regions.
Expressways, six- and eight-lane highways, and upgraded rural roads have collectively reduced travel time and logistics expenses.
Major corridors such as the Ahmedabad–Vadodara Expressway, the Delhi–Mumbai Expressway stretch, and the Ahmedabad–Mehsana–Palanpur route have reinforced Gujarat’s role as a manufacturing and trading hub.
Current investments in underpasses, overbridges, and rural road widening are also aligned with the state’s efforts to integrate industrial growth with urban and rural development.
The state’s road network spans approximately 74,500 km, which includes 6,635 km of national highways and nearly 19,761 km of state highways.
Gujarat also maintains over 300 state highways in addition to a large network of district and village roads.
