Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Assam for a two-day trip, participating in major cultural and developmental programmes on Saturday and Sunday. During his visit, he will showcase Assam’s rich heritage and inaugurate key infrastructure projects.
On Saturday evening, he will attend a large traditional Bodo cultural programme at Sarusajai Stadium in Guwahati.
The event, Bagurumba Dohou 2026, celebrates the heritage of the Bodo community. Over 10,000 artistes will perform the Bagurumba dance in a synchronised presentation, representing 81 Assembly constituencies across 23 districts.
This will be one of the largest cultural performances in Assam.
Bagurumba, a folk dance inspired by nature, is performed by young women with male musicians accompanying them.
The flowing movements imitate butterflies, birds, leaves, and flowers, symbolising harmony between human life and the natural world.
The dance conveys peace, fertility, joy, and collective unity, and is closely linked to festivals such as Bwisagu, the Bodo New Year, and Domasi.
On Sunday morning, PM Modi will travel to Kaliabor to perform the Bhoomi Pujan for the Kaziranga Elevated Corridor Project, an ambitious ₹6,950-crore initiative.
The project involves four-laning the Kaliabor–Numaligarh section of NH-715 and constructing a 35-km elevated wildlife corridor through Kaziranga National Park. It also includes building 21 km of bypasses and widening 30 km of the existing highway.
The project will enhance connectivity across Nagaon, Karbi Anglong, and Golaghat districts. It will also allow wildlife to move freely and help reduce human-animal conflicts.
Additionally, he will flag off two new Amrit Bharat Express trains: the Guwahati (Kamakhya)–Rohtak service and the Dibrugarh–Lucknow (Gomti Nagar) route. These trains will strengthen rail links between the Northeast and northern India.
