PM Modi To Meet Mauritius PM Ramgoolam In Varanasi Today

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will host his Mauritian counterpart, Navinchandra Ramgoolam, in Varanasi on Thursday.

PM Modi will hold talks around 11.30 AM in his parliamentary constituency, and the city has decorated itself to welcome the visiting leader.

Ramgoolam is on a week-long state visit to India from September 9 to 16. His stop in Varanasi is meant to highlight the cultural and spiritual connection that has long been central to India-Mauritius ties.

Focus on Development and New Cooperation

The two leaders will review the full scope of cooperation and discuss new opportunities in education, healthcare, energy, science and technology, and infrastructure.

Renewable energy, digital platforms, and the blue economy are likely to receive special attention during the meeting.

This round of talks follows Prime Minister Modi’s visit to Mauritius earlier this year, when India and Mauritius upgraded their ties to an Enhanced Strategic Partnership.

New Delhi views Mauritius as a key partner in the Indian Ocean, central to both its ‘ MAHASAGAR Vision’ (Mutual and Holistic Advancement for Security and Growth Across Region) and the ‘Neighbourhood First’ policy.

On Wednesday, Ramgoolam addressed a business conclave in Varanasi, calling India Mauritius’s most reliable partner and stressing the potential for deeper trade and investment.

He urged both sides to build on their shared history and cultural closeness to strengthen economic ties.

India and Mauritius share one of the earliest diplomatic relationships for New Delhi, established in 1948, before Mauritius gained independence. Officials describe the bond as one rooted in trust, heritage, and enduring goodwill.

Both sides expect today’s meeting in Varanasi to add fresh momentum to their relationship as they work to build a future based on mutual prosperity and regional cooperation.
