Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lead the grand celebration of Rashtriya Ekta Diwas (National Unity Day) at Ekta Nagar, Gujarat, marking the 150th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the ‘Iron Man of India’. The two-day programme, scheduled for October 30 and 31, will revolve around the theme ‘Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat’.
Minister Jitu Vaghani has announced that for the first time, a grand parade modelled on the Republic Day celebrations in Delhi will be organised at Ekta Nagar. The event will aim to highlight the nation’s unity, cultural richness, and commitment to national integration.
The parade will feature 16 contingents representing forces such as the BSF, CISF, ITBP, CRPF, SSB, NCC, and police units from Jammu & Kashmir, Punjab, Assam, Odisha, Kerala, and Maharashtra. Ten theme-based tableaux will depict the achievements and cultural heritage of various Indian states, underscoring the message of unity in diversity.
Adding grandeur to the occasion, Operation Sindoor medal recipients from the BSF and five Shaurya Chakra awardees from the CRPF will participate in open jeeps. A 100-member Heralding Team dressed in colourful traditional attire, accompanied by musical bands, will lead the parade.
PM Modi will inaugurate and lay the foundation stones for development projects worth ₹1,219 crore. These will include the ₹367 crore Museum of Royal Kingdoms of India and the ₹303 crore Birsa Munda Bhavan, dedicated to the revered tribal leader. Projects worth over ₹700 crore will be launched, while those worth ₹519 crore will be inaugurated.
The Prime Minister will also unveil a commemorative coin and postal stamp to mark Sardar Patel’s 150th birth anniversary. Additionally, he will flag off electric buses in Ekta Nagar and take part in several public engagements.
On Friday, PM Modi will offer floral tributes at the Statue of Unity before launching a Cyclothon from the Dam View Point. The Cyclothon events will continue until November 16–17, with participants from across India joining the main race, organised in collaboration with the Gujarat government’s Sports Department.
Around 660 trainee IAS officers from the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration (LBSNAA) will also take part. PM Modi will inaugurate their national-level orientation programme and deliver an address focused on leadership and unity.
“Gujarat will witness a celebration that will not only honour Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel’s legacy but also embody the spirit of India’s unity in diversity,” stated Minister and State Spokesperson Jitu Vaghani.
