Prime Minister Narendra Modi will launch “PM Vishwakarma” Yojna today in honour of “Vishwakarma Jayanti” to help traditional artisans. Earlier, he inaugurated Delhi Airport Metro Express line extension which will now connect Dwarka Sector 21 to new metro station called Yashobhoomi Dwarka Sector 25. After the inauguration, he took a ride on the train. Today at 3 p.m. passenger services will start.
According to a press release from the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), the event will take place on Sunday at around 11 am at the India International Convention and Expo Centre in Dwarka, New Delhi.
The “PM Vishwakarma” scheme reflects the steadfast commitment of PM Modi to support and uplift individuals engaged in traditional crafts, it said.
On the 77th Independence Day, Prime Minister Modi addressed the nation from the Red Fort’s ramparts, announcing that the government would soon introduce a programme for people with traditional craftsmanship skills.
According to the press release, his vision goes beyond just giving money; it also aims to preserve long-standing customs, culture, and the rich heritage reflected in regional goods, artwork, and crafts. The Union Government will fully fund “PM Vishwakarma” with a staggering allocation of Rs 13,000 crore.
The programme will use the biometric-based “PM Vishwakarma” portal to register “Vishwakarmas,” or people who create with their hands and tools, for free through Common Services Centres. A PM Vishwakarma certificate and ID card will serve as recognition for these artisans and craftspeople, according to the press release.
According to the press release, the PM Vishwakarma scheme will provide incentives for digital transactions, training in both basic and advanced skills, a toolkit incentive of Rs. 15,000, collateral-free credit support up to Rs. 1 lakh (first tranche) and Rs. 2 lakh (second tranche), and marketing assistance.
