PM Modi To Launch Mukhyamantri Mahila Rojgar Yojana; To Transfer Rs 10,000 To Women Beneficiaries

Ahead of the Bihar Assembly elections, PM Narendra Modi will launch the Mukhyamantri Mahila Rojgar Yojana on September 26 at 11 AM via video conferencing.

During the event, he will transfer Rs 10,000 directly into the bank accounts of 75 lakh women across Bihar, amounting to Rs 7,500 crore in the first phase.

Originally announced by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, the scheme aims to make women self-reliant by promoting self-employment and livelihood opportunities. It provides financial assistance to one woman per family in the state to start income-generating activities of their choice.

Under the scheme, each beneficiary will receive an initial grant of Rs 10,000. After six months, authorities will assess the progress of their businesses. Depending on the results, women may receive additional financial assistance of up to Rs 2 lakh.

Community resource persons from self-help groups will train women to develop skills and manage their businesses effectively. The government also plans to upgrade rural haat-bazaars to help beneficiaries market and sell their products.

Officials said the initiative is a key step to empower women voters and strengthen rural livelihoods ahead of the high-stakes state polls, where the NDA led by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar faces a tough contest from the Grand Alliance (INDIA bloc).

The Bihar Cabinet approved the scheme on August 29, 2025, in a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar at the Chief Minister’s Secretariat. The scheme will, however, provide the first instalment of Rs 10,000 to eligible women to begin employment of their choice.
