Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to launch the ‘Jal Sanchay Jan Bhagidari’ initiative in Surat, Gujarat, on Friday via video conferencing, further advancing the government’s commitment to water security and conservation.
Sharing his enthusiasm for the programme on X, PM Modi stated, “Our government is committed to strengthening water security through water conservation. In this direction, today around 12:30 PM, I will have the opportunity to participate in the launch event of the ‘Water Conservation Public Participation Initiative’ in Surat, Gujarat, via video conferencing.”
The new initiative aligns with the ongoing ‘Jal Shakti Abhiyan,’ specifically the ‘Catch the Rain’ campaign, reflecting PM Modi’s broader vision for sustainable water management.
By encouraging collaborative efforts, the initiative aims to make water conservation a shared responsibility across different sectors of society.
The ‘Jal Sanchay Jan Bhagidari’ programme focuses on mobilizing communities, local governments, industries, and other stakeholders in Gujarat to implement rainwater harvesting structures.
With plans to construct nearly 24,800 rainwater harvesting systems throughout the state, the initiative places a heavy emphasis on community-driven action.
These efforts will boost water conservation, enhance rainwater collection, and ultimately contribute to long-term water sustainability.
In an official statement, the government underscored that the initiative aims to bolster PM Modi’s vision of water security by fostering partnerships between citizens and the government.
Meanwhile, the programme follows a ‘whole-of-society and whole-of-government’ approach, emphasizing collective responsibility for water management.
“Building on the success of the Jal Sanchay initiative led by the Government of Gujarat, the Union Ministry of Jal Shakti, in collaboration with the state government, is launching the Jal Sanchay Jan Bhagidari initiative in Gujarat. The Government of Gujarat has endeavoured to mobilise citizens, local bodies, industries and other stakeholders to ensure a water-secure future,” the statement continued.
Seen as a pivotal moment in India’s efforts toward water conservation, the ‘Jal Sanchay Jan Bhagidari’ launch is likely to inspire similar initiatives across other states.
PM Modi has long championed the cause of water conservation as a key national priority, making this launch another important milestone in his ongoing push for sustainable water resource management across the country.
