PM Modi To Inaugurate Year-Long Celebration Of 150 Years Of ‘Vande Mataram’ Today

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the year-long commemoration of the national song ‘Vande Mataram’ on Friday at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium in New Delhi.

As part of the celebrations, the Prime Minister will release a commemorative stamp and coin to mark this historic milestone, which will be observed across the country until 7 November 2026.

The year 2025 marks 150 years since Bankim Chandra Chatterjee composed ‘Vande Mataram’ on the auspicious occasion of Akshaya Navami, 7 November 1875.

The song, which first appeared in the literary journal Bangadarshan as part of Chatterjee’s novel Anandamath, evoked India’s awakening spirit and became a rallying cry for the freedom movement.

The celebrations will include the mass singing of the full version of ‘Vande Mataram’ at around 9.50 AM, with citizens participating across public places nationwide.

This collective recital coincides with the main event at the stadium, symbolising the enduring unity and devotion inspired by the song.

Commemorative Events in Delhi

The Delhi Legislative Assembly will host a special programme to honour the 150th anniversary.

Speaker Vijender Gupta will unveil a commemorative plaque marking this milestone.

The event will also feature a cultural programme presented by artists from the Sahitya Kala Parishad, reflecting the patriotic spirit and the values of unity and national pride embodied in ‘Vande Mataram’.

Moreover, in the evening, authorities will illuminate the Delhi Legislative Assembly building in the colours of the Indian National Flag, highlighting the symbolic importance of the celebrations.

‘Vande Mataram’ goes beyond a song; it embodies the soul of India’s freedom movement.

By portraying the Motherland as the embodiment of strength, prosperity, and divinity, the song inspired a generation to fight for independence while fostering national unity and self-respect. Even today, it continues to serve as a timeless ode to India and its ideals.

Speaker Vijender Gupta remarked, “Vande Mataram is not merely a song — it is the soul of India’s freedom movement and a timeless ode to our motherland. By commemorating this historic milestone, we reaffirm our commitment to the ideals and spirit that shaped our nation.”

The year-long commemoration of ‘Vande Mataram’ reflects India’s ongoing reverence for its cultural heritage and patriotic traditions.

PM Modi’s inauguration of the celebrations, alongside the release of commemorative memorabilia, seeks to engage citizens nationwide, inspiring pride, unity, and devotion to the Motherland.
