PM Modi To Inaugurate Redeveloped Mata Tripura Sundari Temple In Udaipur

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the redeveloped Mata Tripura Sundari temple, one of Hinduism’s 51 Shakti Peethas, in Udaipur, southern Tripura, on Monday, fulfilling long-standing public anticipation, officials said.

Earlier in the day, the Prime Minister will virtually lay the foundation stones for 13 development projects worth over Rs 5,127 crore in Itanagar, Arunachal Pradesh, before arriving in Agartala in the afternoon.

From Agartala, he will take a helicopter to Udaipur, the headquarters of Gomati district, approximately 65 km south, to officially open the renovated temple.
Authorities have arranged a 12-kilometre roadshow from Palatana helipad to the temple, with tight security measures in place.

Following the inauguration of the temple and its beautified surroundings, PM Modi will perform a puja at the Kali temple before returning to Agartala and departing for Delhi.

Officials confirmed that no public address will take place during the visit.

PM Modi’s Previous Visits

This marks the Prime Minister’s 11th visit to Tripura and his second to the Tripura Sundari temple since assuming office in 2014.

He had previously offered prayers at the temple on 7 April 2019 and last visited the state on 17 April 2024 during the Lok Sabha elections.

Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha, who personally inspected the temple twice in recent weeks to oversee arrangements, extended the invitation to the Prime Minister for the inauguration.

Taking to his social media platform, he posted, “The enchanting nighttime supernatural view of the new infrastructure of Mother’s Abode, built under the Prasad Project! The mesmerising complex, blessed by Mother’s grace, reflects the deep reverence and gratitude of the current government towards Mother. The entire population of Tripura is eagerly awaiting the grand inauguration by the world-renowned people’s leader, the illustrious Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji, on the upcoming 22nd of September.”

Under the PRASHAD (Pilgrimage Rejuvenation and Spiritual Heritage Augmentation Drive) scheme, the 524-year-old temple renovated at a cost of over Rs 52 crore, with the state government contributing an additional Rs 7 crore.

Built in 1501 by Maharaja Dhanya Manikya, the Tripura Sundari temple stands as a cultural and spiritual landmark in southern Tripura. It is the third Shakti Peetha in eastern India, following Kolkata’s Kalighat Kali temple and Guwahati’s Kamakhya temple.

The temple’s historical significance is further marked by Tripura’s integration into India on 15 October 1949, following the merger agreement between then-regent Maharani Kanchan Prabha Devi and the Governor General, ending the 517-year rule of the state’s royal lineage.
