PM Modi To Inaugurate 13 Development Projects Worth Over Rs 5,127 Crore In Arunachal Pradesh

Officials said that on Monday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate 13 development projects valued at more than Rs 5,127 crore in Itanagar, Arunachal Pradesh, and will speak at a major public gathering at Indira Gandhi Park.

A senior official noted that the 13 projects include two major hydroelectric ventures with a combined capacity of 426 MW. The state-owned North Eastern Electric Power Corporation (NEEPCO) will commission both projects.

The official added that these two power projects have a combined estimated cost of over Rs 3,700 crore. NEEPCO is executing them in collaboration with the Arunachal Pradesh government.

After visits to Mizoram, Manipur, and Assam on 13–14 September, the Prime Minister will travel to Arunachal Pradesh and Tripura on Monday.

Security has been strengthened in Itanagar and the surrounding areas ahead of his visit.

Earlier on Sunday night, PM Modi posted on his X account, “Tomorrow, 22nd September, is a very important day for the development of the Northeast. During a programme in Itanagar, Arunachal Pradesh, will launch key projects linked to energy, connectivity, healthcare and more. The foundation stone would be laid for two mega hydropower projects. Later, in Udaipur, Tripura, will inaugurate development works at the Mata Tripura Sundari Temple Complex.”

Arunachal CM Hails PM Modi’s Unprecedented Focus on State Development

Taking to X, Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu posted, “Never before has Arunachal seen such consistent attention from a Prime Minister, showing real care for the dreams and development of our people. Eager to welcome Hon’ble PM Modi Ji as he inaugurates and lays the foundation for key projects, and witness the transformative impact these initiatives will bring to every corner of Arunachal.”

A senior official in Itanagar stated that the Prime Minister will also lay the foundation stone virtually for the 186 MW Tato-I and 240 MW Heo hydroelectric projects on the Yarjep River in Shi Yomi district.

The total cost of these two projects is Rs 3,689 crore, with an expected annual generation of 1,803 million units.

Once operational, the state will receive free power worth over Rs 98 crore and a Local Area Development Fund exceeding Rs 16 crore annually.

The Prime Minister will also virtually inaugurate a state-of-the-art integrated convention centre at Tawang, constructed at a cost of Rs 147 crore.

Designed for meetings, conferences, and exhibitions, the centre is likely to boost tourism, services, and handicraft-based livelihoods.

Additional Infrastructure Approvals

The Prime Minister has approved 10 infrastructure projects worth Rs 1,291 crore, including the 1,830-km Frontier Highway and the second phase of the Vibrant Village Programme (VVP).

The Frontier Highway will run parallel to the McMahon Line, from Bomdila in West Kameng district to Vijaynagar in Changlang district, enhancing border security and connectivity.

Under the second phase of the VVP, 122 border villages, 67 along the India-Myanmar border and 55 along the India-Bhutan border, will receive all-weather roads, 4G connectivity, and on-grid electrification.

The Ministry of Home Affairs has sanctioned Rs 2,205 crore for the VVP, which aims to improve living conditions, create livelihood opportunities, curb cross-border crime, and integrate border populations into national security frameworks.

The programme, with a total outlay of Rs 6,839 crore, will cover strategic villages in Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Bihar, Gujarat, Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Punjab, Rajasthan, Sikkim, Tripura, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, and West Bengal through FY 2028-29.

Following the events in Itanagar, the Prime Minister will proceed to Tripura on Monday.
