Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the Purnea Airport today, marking a major step forward for regional air connectivity in eastern Bihar.
The first commercial flight will operate from Purnea to Ahmedabad, followed by another to Kolkata later the same day.
Officials have confirmed that tickets for both flights have already been fully booked.
The newly constructed Purnea Airport will serve as a crucial gateway for the Seemanchal and Kosi regions, with plans for future expansion to connect with Delhi, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, and Mumbai.
The enhanced connectivity is expected to create new opportunities for trade, employment, and tourism across the region.
In addition to the airport, the Prime Minister will inaugurate the Araria–Galgalia–Thakurganj railway line, developed at a cost of ₹4,410 crore.
He will also flag off three new train services—the Jogbani–Danapur Vande Bharat Express, Jogbani–Erode Amrit Bharat Express, and Saharsa–Amritsar Amrit Bharat Express—which will strengthen the rail network in the region.
As part of the visit, PM Modi will launch and lay the foundation stones for development projects worth nearly ₹36,000 crore, including:
The government will conduct Griha Pravesh ceremonies for 40,920 families under the PM Awas Yojana, with homes built at a cost of ₹603 crore.
In addition, the Prime Minister will distribute a Community Investment Fund worth ₹500 crore to support women-led self-help groups.
PM Modi will also announce the creation of a National Makhana Board, aimed at supporting traditional fox nut farmers in Bihar with improved infrastructure and market access.
Officials will inaugurate a Semen Bank facility in Purnea, built at a cost of ₹64 crore, to strengthen the dairy and livestock sector.
PM Modi will address a massive public rally at the Sheeshabadi SSB Camp Ground in Purnea.
The city has decorated itself with banners, cut-outs, and welcome gates. Authorities will deploy more than 1,500 security personnel, restrict drone usage, and conduct multiple drills.
Observers suggest the timing of these announcements—just ahead of the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections—is politically significant.
The government positions the initiatives as a continuation of promises made during the 2019 Lok Sabha campaign, marking a bold step toward inclusive growth and modern infrastructure for Bihar.
