PM Modi To Inaugurate Dhordo As Gujarat’s Fourth Solar Village

PM Narendra Modi will inaugurate Dhordo in Kutch as Gujarat’s fourth fully solarised village on Saturday during the ‘Samudra Se Samriddhi’ programme in Bhavnagar, an official statement announced.

Dhordo, which the UN World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) has recognised as a ‘Best Tourism Village’, has achieved complete solarisation after Modhera (Mehsana), Sukhi (Kheda), and Masali (Banaskantha).

Under the Pradhan Mantri Suryaghar Muft Bijli Yojana, all 81 households in Dhordo now have rooftop solar systems with a combined capacity of 177 kW.

The solar project will generate approximately 2.95 lakh units annually, ensuring energy self-reliance for the village. Each household will save and earn nearly ₹16,064 per year from lower electricity bills and the sale of surplus power.

Collectively, the village will benefit by more than ₹13 lakh annually.

Dhordo Sarpanch Miyan Husen praised the initiative. He noted that government subsidies and bank loans made the rooftop installations nearly cost-free for villagers.

“This border village has already witnessed remarkable development under Prime Minister Modi and Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel. With solar rooftops on every home, electricity bills will drop significantly, and residents are delighted,” Husen said.

PM Modi to Review National Maritime Heritage Complex

During his Gujarat visit, PM Modi will also review the progress of the National Maritime Heritage Complex (NMHC) at Lothal in Ahmedabad district. The ambitious project, worth ₹4,500 crore, blends heritage, education, research, and tourism.

Lothal, once a vital trade hub of the Indus Valley Civilisation and home to one of the world’s earliest dockyards, is being transformed into a global centre of maritime heritage.

Aligned with PM Modi’s vision of ‘Virasat Bhi, Vikas Bhi’, the NMHC will showcase India’s seafaring traditions through modern technology and immersive experiences.

The complex will feature:

  • 14 galleries tracing India’s maritime history from the Harappan era to the present
  • A coastal states pavilion
  • Four themed parks
  • A recreation of Harappan architecture and lifestyle
