PM Modi To Celebrate Clean Energy & Culture In Dhordo’s Solar Inauguration

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate Dhordo in Gujarat’s Kutch district as the state’s fourth fully solar-powered village.

The event will take place in Bhavnagar during the ‘Samudra Se Samriddhi’ programme, reflecting the government’s continued push towards sustainable rural development.

Recognised by the UN World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) as a Best Tourism Village, Dhordo now joins the ranks of Modhera (Mehsana), Sukhi (Kheda), and Masali (Banaskantha) as Gujarat’s solar pioneers.

Under the Pradhan Mantri Suryaghar Muft Bijli Yojana, authorities have installed rooftop solar systems across all 81 households in Dhordo, creating a total generation capacity of 177 kW.

This solar initiative will further generate nearly 2.95 lakh units of electricity annually, making the border village fully energy self-sufficient.

Each household will save and earn around ₹16,064 per year, helping the entire community gain benefits of over ₹13 lakh annually through lower electricity bills and the sale of surplus power.

Local Leadership Welcomes Change

Miyan Husen, Sarpanch of Dhordo, welcomed the transformation and highlighted how government subsidies and accessible bank loans made the project easy to implement.

He said, “Prime Minister Modi and Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel have already driven remarkable progress in this border village. Now, solar panels on every rooftop will drastically reduce our energy bills, and the villagers are truly happy.”

During his Gujarat visit, PM Modi will also review the progress of the National Maritime Heritage Complex (NMHC) at Lothal, Ahmedabad district.

The government is developing the project at an estimated cost of ₹4,500 crore to integrate education, tourism, research, and culture—transforming Lothal into a world-class centre for maritime heritage.

Lothal, once a thriving port city of the Indus Valley Civilisation and home to one of the world’s earliest dockyards, now finds new life as the government reimagines it as a global destination celebrating India’s seafaring legacy through the NMHC.

Moreover, the complex will feature 14 galleries tracing India’s maritime journey from the Harappan era to the modern day, as well as a coastal states pavilion, four theme parks, and an immersive reconstruction of Harappan architecture.

Both the Dhordo solar project and the NMHC initiative reflect PM Modi’s vision of ‘Virasat Bhi, Vikas Bhi’—merging heritage with modern development.

From clean energy in rural Gujarat to preserving ancient maritime culture, the Prime Minister’s visit underscores a strategic balance between innovation and tradition.
