Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to inaugurate the 7.5-km elevated stretch of Bengaluru Metro’s Pink Line on November 13, BJP MP Tejasvi Surya announced on Monday.
Regulatory approval delays stalled the launch for six months. The CMRS has now cleared the route for operations.
The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) plans to initially operate six trains on the elevated section.
The corporation and the Karnataka government are expected to announce the official timetable and inauguration programme shortly.
The Pink Line will connect Kalena Agrahara to Nagawara, covering 21.26 km. The corridor includes a 7.5-km elevated section and a 13.76-km underground stretch.
In the first phase, metro services will operate between Kalena Agrahara and Tavarekere, covering six stations: Kalena Agrahara, Hulimavu, IIMB, JP Nagar 4th Phase, Jayadeva Hospital and Tavarekere.
Jayadeva Hospital station will serve as an important interchange between the Pink and Yellow lines.
The launch is expected to benefit commuters along Bannerghatta Road and areas near IIMB, JP Nagar and Jayadeva Hospital. Heavy traffic frequently congests these stretches, particularly during peak hours.
The new metro service will offer commuters an alternative to road transport and could ease traffic pressure in these busy neighbourhoods.
Earlier, Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar had said that PM Modi would inaugurate the stretch on November 15. The revised schedule has moved the inauguration to November 13.
