PM Modi Highlights Pune Metro Pink Line’s Women-Led Operations And Green Features

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate Pune Metro’s 23-kilometre Pink Line on November 3, marking a major development in the city’s urban transport infrastructure.

The Prime Minister will inaugurate the corridor and lay the foundation stone for Phase II projects worth approximately ₹21,800 crore through video conferencing at 12:30 PM. He will also address the gathering.

PM Modi wrote, “What makes Pune Metro’s new Pink Line so special? 23 km connecting Hinjewadi’s IT hub with Shivajinagar. Operated by women. Almost a third of its electricity needs will be met by solar energy. Tomorrow, this ₹8,300 crore infrastructure upgrade will be inaugurated! A significant boost to ‘Ease of Living’ for Pune!”

The Pink Line, constructed at a cost exceeding ₹8,300 crore, will connect Maan with District Court Metro station, linking Hinjewadi’s IT hub directly with Shivajinagar.

The corridor will benefit IT professionals and other commuters by improving daily travel. Authorities expect the new route to reduce reliance on private vehicles, ease congestion and lower vehicular emissions.

Integration with Pune’s existing Metro network will further strengthen urban connectivity.

The project will also promote women’s empowerment, as women train operators will manage the entire corridor. Additionally, planners expect solar energy to meet around 30 per cent of its electricity requirements.

Alongside the inauguration, PM Modi will lay the foundation stone for Phase II, estimated at ₹13,500 crore. The expansion will include Lines 2A, 2B, 4 and 4A.

These routes will connect Vanaz, Chandani Chowk, Ramwadi, Vitthalwadi, Kharadi, Khadakwasla, Hadapsar, Swargate, Manik Baug and Nanded City.

The corridors will also integrate with intercity buses and existing Metro routes through interchange points such as Swargate, Nal Stop and Kharadi Bypass.
